First stakeholder meeting for reviewing the draft National Nuclear or radiological Emergency Management Plan (EMP) was held on 02.02.2018 at SLAERC. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the drafted EMP and obtain views of the stakeholders of this EMP.

EMP was drafted by SLAERC as per mandated given in section 58(1) and (2) of the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Act No. 40 of 2014. This EMP is necessary requirement as per the Disaster Management Act no 13 of 2005. Disaster Management Center (DMC) recognized SLAERC as the main technical organization in National Emergency Operation Plan (NEOP) to respond radiological emergencies occurred in Sri Lanka and Nuclear emergencies occurred in neighboring countries.

Representatives from following stakeholder agencies have been participated in the meeting and the fruitful discussion were held on emergency management plan.

Dr. Saman Hewamana , Chairman SLAERC attended the inauguration Session of this meeting and speak about his interest to establish the EMP.  Mr.Anil Ranjith, Director General, SLAERC attended the  inauguration  session and delivered opening  remarks giving importance of having this EMP. Mr. Prageeth kadadunna, Deputy Director responsible for drafting this EMP conducted introductory presentations on EMP and held the discussion. Fruitful discussion was held among the stakeholders regarding EMP. All were agreed to provide their comments within a month. After reviewing this EMP with the comments provided by stakeholders, SLAERC is planning to conduct a workshop with the participation of Incident Emergency Center (IEC) of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expects to review the draft. Final draft will be submitted to Disaster Management Council for approval.
